What's next in advocacy in 2012
See what advocacy can do? In 2011, Congress responded to our efforts by increasing funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Let’s start strong this year by speaking up to elected officials, enlisting more advocates, and getting to know each other better. Our new Manager of Field Advocacy, Jen Lemmerman, will be coordinating our volunteer advocacy efforts to mobilize all of us. Let’s get ready to make some noise when the President delivers his State of the Union and Congress returns to work. Here’s a full update on what’s happening in public policy and advocacy.
Coming Soon: Video from the Systems Biology SymposiumWatch the Systems Biology Symposium
Coming soon - you will be able to watch the incredible and informative presentations  by the top minds in the field at the Systems Biology Symposium. Starting in February, listen to what Dr. Dan Gallahan from NCI and Dr. Mike Yaffe from the Koch Institute, say about why we need a systems biology approach to develop therapies, and learn about ways to strengthen the field in this emerging area of cancer research.
Zach and Spenser GreeneA Cure Can't Wait update
The response to the Cure Can't Wait initiative is still going strong so NBTS is continuing to accept donations through the end of January. Thank you to all of the generous people who have already given. If you haven't been able to make a donation yet, you can still help kick start new progress toward finding a cure here.
Cell with DNAAttention researchers: help TCGA with low-grade gliomas
NBTS is honored to be issuing this call to help The Cancer Genome Atlas Project of the National Cancer Institute secure a sufficient number of samples of low-grade gliomas to conduct comprehensive genomic analysis. Here’s our moment to help TCGA and in doing so help advance brain tumor research. Find out how to help here.

Hope and InspirationFrom our Story Corner
"Hope and Inspiration" is a mother's story about her son's diagnosis with Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma. Despite facing enormous challenges, she writes about never losing hope. "You may fall down but you will get up and fight this! I just want to give one mother hope to hold on to." Read the story.

Scientific Insights
There is a new topic on the NBTS-led Scientific Insights Discussion Board: In light of the biological complexity involved in glioblastoma, how likely does it seem that new effective therapies that inhibit individual or multiple targets will be developed without utilizing systems biology research approaches that embrace that complexity?
