NCI Intiative Prioritizes Pediatric Brain Tumors
Up to $5 million of the National Cancer Institute’s additional funding from the economic stimulus package may be used to expand the TARGET Initiative to identify molecular targets for selected pediatric cancers. NBTS is grateful that brain tumors have been identified as an additional area of NCI’s TARGET Initiative.

TARGET funding applications are due June 12, 2009. Please share this opportunity with other researchers in the pediatric brain tumor field.

NBTS formalized our own commitment to molecular profiling as a key area in the NBTS Pediatric Research Initiative. Our Scientific Advisory Council is currently reviewing pediatric and adult applications for our 2009 research grant cycle.

Connecting with Others
At our spring events across the country, we've seen patients, survivors, and caregivers make meaningful connections with one another. But you don't have to meet in person to connect with others who have been through similar experiences. Our online message boards open up "conversations' to you no matter where you are, and our Peer Suport Network can help you make a one-on-one connection online or by phone.

Important Changes to Financial Assistance
National Brain Tumor Society will no longer be offering direct financial assistance as of May 26, 2009. In light of this change, we are pleased to announce that two national non-profits will continue our efforts in offering financial assistance for brain tumor patients:
  • Cancer Care’s Financial Assistance and
        Co-Payment Assistance Foundation  More
  • HealthWell Foundation  More

    Making an Impact this Spring
May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month and it could not have started off any stronger! On May 2nd and 3rd, over 12,000 people gathered in San Francisco and Washington, DC to unite in the fight against brain tumors. The 15th Annual Bay Area Brain Tumor Walk and the 12th Annual Race for Hope DC presented by Cassidy & Pinkard Colliers collectively raised over $1.5 million to benefit the National Brain Tumor Society.

In the last three weeks, thousands more have joined the fight in events like the 2nd Annual Nick Gonzales Charity Golf Tournament in Texas and the 5th Annual Team Billy Ride & Walk for Research in New York. National Brain Tumor Society thanks our many supporters for their dedication to raising awareness and vital funds for the brain tumor cause.
