Continuing Medical Education online course available
A free, web-based educational course on brain tumors is available online for healthcare professionals and the general public alike. “Latest Advances in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Malignant Gliomas” is presented by the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania and The Kelly Heinz-Grundner Brain Tumor Foundation, a subsidiary of NBTS. This multidisciplinary educational activity outlines the latest innovative approaches to treat patients with newly diagnosed tumors. The course is CME-certified by the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits, or a non-credit version of the program is also available. The course can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Don't miss the SSBTR Walk-a-thon!
Join Students Supporting Brain Tumor Research in Scottsdale, Ariz. on February 26 for their 10th annual Walk-A-Thon. Walk anywhere from 1/4 mile to 5 miles or more. The event is family-friendly and easy for people of all ages in all physical conditions. The registration fee includes a SSBTR T-shirt, silent auction, snacks, and entertainment (and be on the look out for NBTS frisbees!).

 Community event highlight: 8th Annual Michael Lewandowski Memorial Ski Day
The 8th Annual Michael Lewandowski Memorial Ski Day in January was another big success. Over 125 people attended the event and all experienced great sun, great snow, and a strong sense of purpose, companionship, and remembering the positive lessons Michael brought to his fight against brain cancer. The event raised over $22,000 which will support the work of NBTS. Since its small start in 2004, the Ski Day has raised almost $150,000.

 Justin heads to NBA All-Star Weekend
Fourteen year-old brain tumor survivor Justin Friedlander is headed to Los Angeles on Friday to shoot his final few baskets as part of NBA All-Star Weekend. To keep up on all the action as Justin reaches his goal of shooting 63,000 baskets (one for each person diagnosed with a primary brain tumor every year), visit www.JustinsQuest.com. It is anticipated that one or more NBA players will be involved in what promises to be a grand finish to an extremely amazing journey. Latest "Conversation" about systems biology
As part of our "Conversations about Systems Biology" interview series, Dr. Oliver Bögler, Chair of the NBTS Scientific Advisory Council, recently spoke with Dr. Lewis Cantley of Harvard Medical School, to share his outlook on systems biology research in general, his professional work in the field, and his thoughts regarding the application of systems biology research to brain tumors.
KHG Beef and Beer event a success!
Auctions, food, and music took center stage at the Hockessin Memorial Hall in Delaware on Friday, January 21. The Kelly Heinz-Grundner Brain Tumor Foundation, a subsidiary of NBTS, hosted its annual Beef and Beer fundraiser to a sold-out crowd of 350 supporters. A big "Thank You" goes out to all the volunteers and patrons that made this night a success!
