We’re United and Fighting Brain Tumors for Brain Tumor Awareness Month
As we raise our voices and step up all across the country, the brain tumor community has been raising awareness and showing support for the cause all month long.
Our Bay Area Brain Tumor Walk was held on Saturday, May 4 at Golden Gate Park - rallying over 2,700 participants and raising $570,000. Congrats to our top teams and individuals such as TessForce, George Loves Lizards, Emily’s Tumor Tamers, George Campbell, Emily LaRoche, and everyone else who came out for this amazing day!
On the next day, back across the country, Race for Hope-DC was held at Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC – with top teams such as Cassidy Turley, David Cook, Team BT, and many more! More than 12,000 patients, survivors, family, and friends came together from all over the nation. Your next opportunity to join us at an upcoming event is at the Denver or New York Brain Tumor Walks – Register today!

To ensure policymakers are well informed of the needs of the brain tumor community, more than 100 advocates joined us on Capitol Hill (once again) for our annual advocacy event, Head to the Hill, on May 6 -7 in DC. Each of these inspiring patients, family members, and friends shared their personal stories and made a real difference in the fight against this disease by advocating for two critical issues – increased research funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and affordable access to oral chemotherapy treatments. With 126 meetings and 29 states represented, this year's advocacy day was the largest and most successful advocacy event yet.
Collaboration is key to advancing research, and vital to the discovery of a cure – and at our first Advancing Research to Therapies for Brain Tumors (ART) conference, we made sure this message was heard. Earlier this month, we brought together researchers, pharmaceutical industry executives, and venture capitalists together to discuss how to advance brain tumor research from the laboratory to clinical care. Panels outlined the criteria that both investors and industry consider when deciding to fund or license an academic asset. In addition, the ART conference showcased current National Brain Tumor Society-funded researchers, who presented their pre-clinical drug candidates ready for the next stage of investment.
