Awareness Abounds:
Inaugural Glioblastoma Awareness Day Moves & Inspires

On Wednesday, July 17, the first-ever GBM Awareness Day became a trending topic in the nation and the groundswell of awareness that was generated has served to establish a strong foundation for an annual commemoration that will continue to raise the collective consciousness in the U.S. about the urgent need to conquer and cure glioblastoma.

Driven by the brain tumor community's advocacy and action, GBM Awareness Day creates a focal point to honor the patients, families, and care partners who have faced glioblastoma – the most common, complex, treatment-resistant, and deadliest type of brain cancer.

Join the Next Brain Tumor Support Conversations August 18

Brain Tumor Support Conversations is a monthly online support group to further unite the brain tumor community. Facilitated by Adam Hayden and Lisa O'Leary, this support group provides a safe space where patients and loved ones can talk about the feelings and emotions that are difficult to discuss with those who have not lived through any stage of the brain tumor experience.

ShopRite Supermarkets Raise Over $125k for NBTS

This summer, ShopRite of Keasbey, NJ and Zallie Supermarkets Inc. presented a check for more than $125k to support the National Brain Tumor Society. The fourth annual fundraiser took place in May – during Brain Tumor Awareness Month – where seven ShopRite stores asked customers to "round-up" to the nearest dollar at checkout to raise money for the NBTS.

Generously spearheaded by the Zallie family, the fundraiser has raised over $375k since its creation in 2016. The Zallie's are long-time supporters of NBTS. Outside of the fundraiser each May, a number of Zallie Family Shoprite employees generously support the local Race for Hope Philadelphia.

If you own a business, or are connected to a business that has the capacity to conduct an in-store change round up, we would love to hear from you! Contact our Development team at partnerships@braintumor.org.

NBTS Applauds Medicare's Coverage Decision for Tumor Treatment Field Therapy

A new Medicare policy going into effect 9/1 will now cover the device for GBM patients known as Tumor Treatment Field Therapy (TTFT) for patients receiving their health insurance through Medicare. Coverage of this device, now part of the standard of care for GBM, is yet another recent result of the brain tumor community's advocacy efforts.

Inspirational Madison 5k Continues to Grow

Started in 2014 to honor Douglas Pink, this year's 6th annual Madison Brain Tumor 5K engaged over 1,000 participants from 19 states and raised $71k for NBTS. While the Pink family's starting goal was to "take [their] loss and turn it into something positive that could benefit others", their event has grown to be a network of year-round support for the Wisconsin and larger brain tumor community.
