Inspirational Evening at NBTS Annual Meeting Thanks to all those in the brain tumor community who were able to join us in Washington, DC last week. Highlights included:
- Video debut of the compelling story of NBTS and our committment to the community through our three mission areas of patient services, research, and advocacy. View
- Over $3.5 million in research grants were awarded for promising projects. More
- Dr. Anna Barker, Deputy Director of National Cancer Institute and Dr. Kenneth Kinzler, Professor of Oncology at The Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center accepted the first Founders Award for Research Excellence for the advancement in genomic analysis of gliomas. More
- Community Leader Awards were presented to individuals who are inspirational examples of dedication and support. More
- A moving story, "A Father's Voice," shared by Eric Wenger about his 9-year old daughter Kayla, currently battling a brain tumor diagnosis. More

Research Workshop: "Driving Research to Therapies" NBTS hosted a professional workshop prior to our Annual Meeting last week. Titled "Defining the Role of the Non-Profit Organization: Driving Research to Therapies," the workshop underscored the complexity of the multiple phases of the Research & Development pipeline, including the range of expertise and experience required and efforts necessary to overcome hurdles in bringing promising research to effective and approved therapies. We were joined by prestigious panelists from industry, governemnt, and academia, providing informative and lively discussion. New NBTS Grant Structure Put into Action NBTS has now funded over $3.5 milllion in research in 2009 through our Standard, Advanced, and Innovation Research Grants, including a focus on pediatric brain tumor research. We bring together patients, caregivers, and friends to connect with others coping with a brain tumor diagnosis. More Ependymoma Outcomes (EO) Project CERN survey for adults with an ependymoma diagnosis looking for participants. The EO Project is an online questionnaire designed to gather information to better understand outcomes for adult patients with ependymoma. Participants will be anonymous and will provide information on their current health status and treatment history.
