 In memory of David M. Bailey
The staff and board of the National Brain Tumor Society are deeply saddened by the passing of David Bailey on October 2, 2010, more than 14 years after he was diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Tulips Against Tumors Tribute
You have just a few days left to order your tulips for the 6th Annual Tulips Against Tumors Tribute. The ordering deadline is Tuesday, October 26. Once you've received your tulip bulbs, we hope you will then join with us and our supporters around the country on November 6 at 1 PM ET for National Planting Day. There will also be a special ceremony and memorial garden planted at this time at the University of Delaware, near the headquarters of NBTS subsidiary, The Kelly Heinz-Grundner Brain Tumor Foundation. One amazing kid, one amazing summer
Fourteen year-old Justin Friedlander had one incredible summer. In an effort to increase brain tumor awareness and raise funds for research, Justin shot thousands of baskets, including a few with the President of the United States! NBTS at the Society for NeuroOncology Meeting
At this year's Society for NeuroOnoclogy (SNO) Scientific Meeting in November, Mary Lovely, RN, PhD, Medical Information Specialist at NBTS, will act as Chair of the Quality of Life Education Day. The morning session will include a review of the cognitive literature, the role of functional MRIs in brain injury, effects of treatment such as radiation and chemotherapy. The afternoon session will include lectures on how to manage cognitive changes for the patient and caregiver.

Living with a Brain Tumor Conference recap
Our recent "Living With a Brain Tumor" Conference in Dallas-Ft. Worth brought together patients, families, friends, health professionals, and volunteers from far and wide to learn, share, and connect. A multidisciplinary team of brain tumor health professionals and NBTS staff presented information on a range of topics, from updates in treatment to art therapy and more. Newly released Continuing Medical Education (CME) Training Program focuses on adult brain tumors
This web-based educational activity, Latest Advances in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Malignant Gliomas, was produced by our subsidiary, The Kelly Heinz-Grundner Brain Tumor Foundation, in partnership with Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania. The course is CME-certified by the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Learn more.

October event check-in
The fall event season is still in full swing, with two more events since those in September. Thanks to everyone involved! Some highlights include:
More than 1,500 people raised over $400,000 in the inaugural Boston Brain Tumor Walk.
On the other side of the country, at the Southern California Brain Tumor Walk, over 1,100 people raised $240,000.
And the fall events aren't over yet! Please join us for the Dallas-Fort Worth Brain Tumor Walk on November 6, or the Race for Hope - Philadelphia on November 7.

Hurwitz selected for panel
 David R. Hurwitz, NBTS Richard B. Ross Chief Scientific Officer, has been invited to chair the Pediatric Brain Tumor Scientific Review Panel for the 2010 Department of Defense Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program.
