Walk Day and Ferry Information
Registration and check-in open at 7 AM in the Battery Maritime Building located at 10 South Street, adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry in Lower Manhattan. A selection of breakfast items and coffee will be provided at the event site.
NBTS has arranged for earlier crossings for event participants, with the first of these at 7:30 AM and then one at 8:15 AM and the final at 9:00 AM The public ferry for the short trip to Governors Island begins service at 10:00 AM Please note that these special ferry departures are limited to registered participants, event staff and volunteers ONLY. Upon reaching Governors Island, Volunteers and signs will lead you to the site.
Registration fees include an event T-shirt (for pre-registered participants ONLY), food, beverages, and full access to activities. Event T-shirts may be collected at the event site. To guarantee yourself a T-shirt, register today! Event program starts at 8:45 AM, followed by the 5K walk promptly at 9:15 AM. The 5K walk will take place entirely on Governors Island. The route is completely paved and is stroller and wheelchair accessible. The route will circle the perimeter of the island with breathtaking views of the NYC skyline, Brooklyn, and New York Harbor. The start/finish line is at Picnic Point - the closest land mass to the front-facing view of the Statue of Liberty. This is not a race and participants are not required to walk the full course. Those who wish to remain in the picnic area during the walk are welcome to do so.
The event will conclude at approximately 12 noon. Ferries are available all afternoon and everyone is required off the island at 7:00 PM. The last ferry back to Manhattan departs at 7:00 PM. See the full ferry schedule for more details.
Rain or shine the event will go on! In the event of rain, we will build extra tents to help keep everyone dry. Regardless of weather, layered clothing, wind breakers, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended.
