Day of Event Information
Walk Day
Date: Saturday, May 4, 2013 Location: Hellman Hollow (Speedway Meadow), San Francisco, CA Registration/Check In: 9:00 – 10:00 AM Program and Activities: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Getting to the event
The event will take place in the same site as
last year. The SF Recreation and Parks department renamed Speedway Meadow to
Hellman Hollow. Look for signage with either name within Golden Gate Park
or follow the Brain Tumor Walk directional signs to the event.

Parking and Shuttle Service
Please allow ample
time to park since public parking is limited at the site. Parking is allowed in
Golden Gate Park on both sides of John F. Kennedy Drive near
Hellman Hollow (Speedway Meadow), on a first come first served basis.
Additionally, free
public parking will also be available at Ocean
Beach, where Golden
Gate Park meets the Pacific Ocean. (Ocean
Beach - 1000 Great Highway, San Francisco, CA)
Complimentary Brain Tumor Walk Shuttles will run
continuously from The Beach Chalet (across from Ocean Beach)
and Hellman Hollow (Speedway Meadow) between 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM. Look for
the Shuttle Stop signs.
Drop-Off Information
There will be a
designated drop-off/ loading area near Hellman Hollow (Speedway Meadow). Look
for the orange parking cones near the entrance to the event site with the paved
path.
Walk Day Program
- Registration and check-in open
at 9:00 AM
- Registration fees include an
event T-shirt (for pre-registered participants ONLY), breakfast foods
& beverages, and full access to activities. Event T-shirts may be
collected after you check-in on walk day. Event T-shirts are only
guaranteed for those who pre-register. To guarantee yourself a T-shirt,
register today!
- Event program starts at 10:00 AM,
followed by the walk at approximately 10:30 AM.
- The optional 5K walk will start
and finish at Hellman Hollow (Speedway Meadow) near the picnic area. This
is not a race and participants are not required to walk the full course.
Those who wish to remain in the picnic area during the walk are welcome to
do so. Walkers will head towards the soccer and polo fields,
around the fly casting pools and Anglers Lodge, past the buffalo paddock, along
John F.
Kennedy Drive passing by the model yacht club and Spreckles Lake,
continuing to Crossover Drive,
and back to the finish line at the picnic area.
- The closing ceremony will begin
at approximately 12:00 PM.
- Top team and top individual
fundraisers will be honored during the closing ceremony. Raffle winners
will be announced shortly thereafter.
- Lunch will no longer be
provided.
- After the event concludes,
please feel free to stay and relax in the picnic area.
Rain or shine the
event will go on! In the event of rain, we will build extra tents to help keep everyone
dry.
Regardless of
weather, layered clothing, wind breakers, sunglasses, and sunscreen are
recommended.
