05/06/2014 | It was a little upsetting for me because I was told that I was the first female winner but then they announced someone else. I wouldn't really care except that my family members were so excited to see me win in honor of Colleen Gormley, my sister-in-law and childhood friend whom we've been walking/running for since her diagnosis and sad passing several years ago. We have a small but steady core team and plan on doing this event indefinitely. It would have been a very special moment. We will continue to do the race but hope that this doesn't happen to someone else in the future as it kind of took away from the day for my family. |
05/13/2014 | as a volunteer in the survivor tent i was amazed that there was extreme bare minimal under this tent i guess i must be missing the purpose of this tent networking with other survivors , however heard others say there is nothing here. registration maybe for the survivor or ck in for the survivor updates on organizations available, resources, education etc something needed to be in this tent |

05/05/2014 | My big issue was that there was not enough water on the course. We need two water stations and or be able to access the same water station from both directions. It was so hot that I really could have used more water. Then when we crossed the finish line we had to walk a lot more than needed to get to the water station. The water was so warm. Can you keep it under tents so that it does not get direct sunlight? Also for the snacks can you include protein options. Everything that was there was carbs which is fine but I need protein when I am done. Another thing I recently experienced in a race what that people are divided by advances, intermediate, and beginner (you self select at registration). Then what they did was give numbers to that effect (100-300 were advanced, 301-570 intermediate, etc). Then they called the people by numbers and waiting 5 minutes to send the next group. I understand that this is a much larger race so it may not be possible. Some of us did not register as runners but wanted to run/walk and there were so many people in the way that we had to run on the left but people kept on jumping in there and then the runners who were the leaders started to come on the opposite side and we had to merge with the bigger walking crowd. Maybe have an area where we can pass the slower runners or walkers from the start line to the 1st right turn. This is my 5th year doing the the race and my 1st year run/walking. So this is why I am haven't noticed the previous years. Thank you for a great time! |
05/05/2014 | This is the 6th time that I've participated in the Race for Hope, and based on how things are going, as long as I'm still living in this area (and even if I'm not), I intend to continue to participate annually if possible. My only issues are very minor ones with setting up my fundraising page (this was the first time I tried to do fundraising, but I definitely will work harder at it in the future since this is a cause that touches me personally), but any effort you can put forth toward those would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm pretty sure my time was not accurate (which you may not be able to do anything about). Somehow, despite not being right on the starting line, I got marked as starting at the same time that the clock did (even though it was probably about 15 seconds difference). Again, this isn't a major issue by any stretch, but I just thought this was worth pointing out. Again, great job as usual! |
05/05/2014 | An option to Have your packet mailed for an additional cost or coordinate pick up times with hotel check ins. I live over 1.5 hours away. I drove to Crystal City Saturday morning and hotel check in time isn't until 4 pm, if be more then willing to pay $10 to have my packet mailed to me a week prior to the race or only make one trip into the city. Otherwise it was another fabulous year! Regarding volunteering it would be nice to have more advanced planning then the week before for those of us that don't live close. |

05/06/2014 | Fantastic event once again. David Cook led me here five years ago, but after experiencing it once I try to come back every year I can. |

05/06/2014 | This was my fourth RFH but my first time being chip-timed, and I enjoyed hearing my name called as I crossed the finish line! Having a marching band on the course again was fun. Somehow I missed seeing the 3 mile mark but then I saw the finish line so I knew I was almost there. I also enjoyed hearing David Cook's music at the beginning of the race and then after the post-race ceremony. He is a true ally to the cause (and I'm not just saying that as a member of his team!). It was a beautiful day, weather-wise and inspiration-wise. I'm looking forward to participating again next year! |

05/05/2014 | It was a very moving experience. I was overwhelmed to see the huge crowd and so many survivors. I'm sure it helps people who have lost a loved one. I am sorry to have a loved one fighting brain cancer but hope this race will lead to a cure for her. So glad to be able to help. I never thought I would be in a 5K, but I am pleased that it all went well. |

05/05/2014 | Congratulations on another successful event! Since Race for Hope has become so popular, I was wondering if runners could be organized slightly differently. The thought would be adult runners (14 & older) who can complete the 5K in 40 minutes or less, could run earlier in the day (7:30/8am). This way, experienced runners could complete the course more efficiently and return to their team more quickly. Runners who are at least 14 years old (in this group) should have general understanding of etiquette and be able to complete the course within the time frame, and again return to their team more quickly. Just a thought. Thanks. |
05/05/2014 | Was thinking the bag check could stay open a little longer. I ended up leaving my stuff with friends, but bag check could be useful to me another time.. |
05/05/2014 | The Race for Hope is well organized. I applaud all the organizers and the volunteers for a job very well done. The bagels and snacks at the end of the race was very much appreciated!!! Keep up the good work and hopefully together we can raise enough money to find a cure/treatment for all!!! |
05/05/2014 | There were fewer water stations this year as well as popsicles and snacks after the race, many people that came in later (walkers more than runners it seemed) were not even offered a choice as they ran out of several items. |
05/13/2014 | Specific tasks and designated time for arrival would have been helpful to know well in advance. I needed to know before the evening before where I needed to be and when. The e-mails sent were too general and did not provide the specifics. I can understand this is a huge event to arrange but not a pleasant experience. I arrived at volunteer tent and followed their queues on where help was needed. When I was confronted by Margo, and asked "what are you doing here" after I had ran throughout freedom plaza handing out yellow balloons and gathering survivors, that is not the greeting I was expecting. Sorry but you are not going to keep volunteers treating them with no respect and thanks. |
05/05/2014 | I love participating in this race. It is so uplifting and inspirational. In reading some of the previous comments, I have to agree that there could have been more water stops. And please place a couple of trash cans further down the path for those of us who don't gulp it down immediately. By the time I finished my drink, I had no choice but to drop my cup on the ground (not my plan). The snacks/water bottles could be more readily accessible at the finish, but that may be difficult to work out with such a large crowd. Overall, a wonderful experience! Can't wait till next year! |
05/05/2014 | The only comment that we continue to stress every year is that there is not enough time to walk the entire race and make it back for the kids fun run. It would be nice to have a bit more time to get back so that we could complete the entire distance. |
05/14/2014 | originally went because david cook was involved. came for david stayed for the most amazing weekend of my life. this was my second year. you helped me register cause wasn't able to get my comp. doing it. I should wear yellow but I wear red, I volunteer and I take away a feeling of we will kick cancer to the curb. I thank you and all that make the dream possible. thank you. see you next year. |
05/05/2014 | I had the best time. I don't personally have any connection to any of the organizations, but there was a common bond between everyone there that made me feel very welcome. |

05/05/2014 | Would appreciate more port o potties along race course |
05/05/2014 | All is well. Keep on keeping on and we look forward to next year. Many thanks |
05/11/2014 | At least one of the winners announced during the post-race ceremony (Bethann Telford) does not appear to be the winner by timed race result (Julia Khvasechko). This seems to be a recurring issue because last year the female survivor winner was Barkle Bloom who was not announced at the ceremony. You guys need to get it right! |

05/05/2014 | I was not aware that one could survive having a brain tumor or that so many people were affected by the condition. Seeing the survivors (especially the children) was heartwarming. The Wall of Hope was inspiring and heartwrenching at the same time. |
05/06/2014 | It would have been nice if David Cook would perform a song there. It would be nice to have for the people staying overnight a gathering event the day or night before. It would have been nice to have lst time teams with highest funds raised acknowledged. It just seems that the same top teams are the ones who win each year for top fundraiser teams. Also, the ceremony starts very quick and some walkers were not even finished when the ceremony started. |
05/07/2014 | I really enjoyed myself. The weather was great. However, please add one more water station to the 5K. One was not enough. Especially since it was warm outside. I'll be back next year! |

05/05/2014 | As a brain tumor survivor, and a first time attendee to the race, I would have been interested in knowing other people's experiences with their tumors. As survivors, we were wearing t-shirts, but there was no way to identify if others had my same tumor or tumor experience. Perhaps it would be nice to have a survivor meeting in the survivor tent that would facilitate discussion. Just a thought. |
05/06/2014 | Humbling and wonderful moment at the same time. Thank you. It meant a lot to me, to be part of such a great event and wonderful cause. |

05/05/2014 | My brother passed away 7 weeks ago yesterday and my oldest brother passed away 6 years ago yesterday.....it was our first time participating. We visited the wall of hope first and shared stories with others....so touching. We turned around and my brothers picture was on the jumbo tron tv. We were making our way to the starting line for walkers and a lady had heard our story and gave me a necklace she made out of heart shaped seashells. As we were crossing the finish line they recognized my brother and the music that was playing was one of my brothers favorites and the song they had playing during his picture DVD at his funeral.....I believe my brother was there with us yesterday every step of the way.....thank you so much |

05/05/2014 | Very confusing at the start - probably my fault. |
05/05/2014 | GREAT RUN.. Post race found etc is sooo well organized!! One of our absolute favorites! |
05/07/2014 | It was such a great day. I wanted to stay after the race but had another commitment to get to. The PEETs coffee truck was very welcome- since METRO was running slow I came down early! Thanks for warning us about Metro by the way...Also the school band that was playing during the race was amazing- so nice for all those kids to come out for us. You all did a fabulous job making this a memorable and encouraging event. Thank you! |
05/05/2014 | We love this event. Please consider locating the announcer stage in a more visible place. Please consider a staggered start between runners and walkers to prevent walkers from slowing down runners who get caught in the crowd at lineup. Thanks to police and volunteers for support. |
05/07/2014 | Loved the band that was playing along the race course. |

05/05/2014 | I am amazed by all the hard work people (a lot of volunteers) perform for this cause and I am happy and honored to be part of it. I would love to be a part of this full time not just once a year. |
