Support My Fight Against Brain Tumors

If you recall, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor on Dec. 12, 2012...yes, that's 12/12/12! The oligoastrocytoma was successfully removed on Dec. 18, 2012! Since then, I've been in the great care of a physician at Ohio State University who checks on me every 3 months by way of an MRI to make sure nothing has grown back.

After surgery I had crazy amounts of energy due to the steroids I was prescribed. I longed to walk around the neighborhood, but wasn't allowed to go by myself because of the ice and the whole brain surgery/risky behavoir thing. So, my good friend and neighbor was allowed to join (supervise) me while I got some fresh air. At that time, going around the block was about all I could handle. I am not a runner and don't plan on ever becoming one, but am so thankful that walking a 5K is not only possible, but completely enjoyable since I have made a full recovery since surgery!!!

I am not necessarily trying to make a ton of money for the cause, but am hoping to promote awaremenss and act as an advocate, and so I can wear my "I had brain surgery, what's your excuse?" t-shirt in public. :)  I am participating to improve the lives of all those affected by brain tumors.

Funds raised here helps to direct promising research, support families who are currently coping with the effects of a brain tumor diagnosis, and advocate for change.

National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) is a leader in the brain tumor community, bringing together the best of research, patient services, and advocacy to be a comprehensive resource for patients, families, caregivers, researchers, and medical professionals.

NBTS invests wisely and strategically across the research spectrum, seeking new therapeutic targets and improving existing treatments, which
will ultimately lead to a cure. NBTS provides education and information to help patients, families, and caregivers make informed decisions and develop strong support systems during every stage of the journey.

Your support ensures this important work will continue.
