The Irene Team [a subset of Team Brewpublic!]
In September of 2015 my mother received the very worst diagnosis in brain tumors, Grade IV Glioblastoma. The initial prognosis for this cancer is 12-18 months, but after her surgery the neurosurgeon thought that may be closer to six months. She made it 13 months, passing away last October.
We know that they have made monumental advances in cancer research, and brain cancer is no exception. The sad fact is that it isn’t a “boutique cancer”, as in it doesn’t attract massive amounts of attention (and thus donations) as others. I would like to do what I can to bring awareness and by extension raise money to fund the research of a field that seems on the brink of important discoveries. Just ten years ago a Glioblastoma diagnosis would have meant you have a few months to live. The fact that my mother made it 13 months is a testament to the advancement of brain tumor research and medicine (and her ironclad will.) I want to make sure I do all that I can to ensure that people are able to support their loved ones who endure brain tumor diagnoses as long as they possibly can. And most importantly that the time they do get to spend with them is quality.
Come to Portland and walk with me on August 6th, or if you can't make it all the way up here maybe you could show your support for Irene by making a donation to the cause. I've set a $5K personal goal, lofty for one month, but let's see what we can do.
National Brain Tumor Society is fiercely committed to finding a cure for brain tumors. They are aggressively driving strategic research and advocating for public policies that meet the critical needs of the brain tumor community. Your support ensures this important work will continue.
