On July 29, 2005, after experiencing severe headaches for an extended period of time my husband, Brad, was sent for a CT scan of his brain to rule out anything 'serious'. The scan showed Brad had a very large brain tumor on his left Occipital and Parietal lobes.  The tumor was immediately life threatening and required urgent removal. On Wednesday, August 3rd Brad underwent 7 hours of surgery to have the baseball sized tumor removed from his brain.  The surgery was a success and thankfully, the tumor was benign.

In May of 2009 we were surprised to learn that tumor was back and growing once again.  The location of Brad's tumor makes it very difficult to remove all the cells and although they thought they had done so in 2005, subsequent MRIs show that not to be the case.

In the spring of 2010 Brad underwent 5 weeks of daily radiation treatments at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.  All indications are that the radiation therapy worked to stop the growth of the tumor, for which we are very grateful.  Since the end of treatments, Brad's energy level has been restored and virtually all symptoms related to the tumor have dissipated.  It is good to have him back to his old self!

This will be our 5th year walking in the Race for Hope.  We are excited to be back, all of us healthy, strong and ready to participate.   Brad, Jason, Alex, Sam and I will walk to honor our experience and celebrate Brad's good health.
