Support Cushing's Disease Research
For the past two years I participated in the Race for Hope 5K to raise money for brain tumor research, and Sunday, May 4, 2014 will mark my third run for this great cause. This year I am excited to announce that my mom will also be joining me on the course!
As most know, I had brain surgery to remove a pituitary tumor after being diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, a rare endocrine disorder that affects your body’s cortisol levels and when left undiagnosed can kill you. Cushing’s is a "special kind of disorder" due to its rarity and the still early science behind your endocrine system. Many times the symptoms are missed or misdiagnosed, and following treatment, it can take several years to reverse the effects, if at all. For perspective, only 1-3 people per million are affected, and my personal case was comparable to only a few in the world.
Every day I count my blessings and work to live the best life while creating awareness for this complicated and sometimes debilitating disease. At the same time, I am also in awe of the number of people I’ve encountered with various brain disorders, and this year I am running for all of them as well.
I am hoping you will (perhaps once again) contribute to support my quest and raise money for the National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. Any amount, great or small, helps the fight. This is the only cause that I actively fundraise for, and you can easily make your donation on this page.
Thank you for your support and ongoing encouragement.
