We feel so thankful and truly blessed that today Oceanna is a healthy 5 year old with a bubbling personality, and endless energy.

April 21, 2011 we were shocked to hear the unbelievable news that Oceanna had a brain tumor. After months of her being sick, with what the doctor’s thought were allergies, a CT scan proved otherwise. An MRI quickly followed and armed with our devastating news we were taken by ambulance to Children's National Medical Center in DC.  First thing the next morning Oceanna underwent 8 hours of brain surgery.  Her phenomenal brain surgeon achieved a successful complete resection of her tumor. The road was far from over however.  She miraculously recovered within days of the surgery.  In June, 2011 she began her 6 weeks of Proton Therapy Radiation in Philadelphia.  Side effects from the radiation were limited to remote hair loss and tiredness; both of which she has completely recovered from.  Oceanna continues to receive quarterly MRI’s to ensure if the tumor does return it will be detected early.

Update:  Oceanna had a lesion detected in an MRI in 2013.  MRI's were scheduled every 3 months to more closely watch this area.  It was thought to be scaring from her previous radiation treatments.  As the lesion grew it took on a form more familiar with tumor.  After careful consideration with her team of doctors and previous surgeon it was suggested to move forward with another surgery to remove the spot.  Feb 4, 2014 Oceanna had her 2nd 8 hour brain surgery which resulted in a complete resection!  She remained in the hospital for four days.  Once home she recovered comfortably with many meals, gifts and prayers from her school friends and family.  After an agonizing 6 weeks of waiting we learned the pathology.  It was a Spindle Cell Neoplasm (tumor).  It was indeed from her radiation treatments.  We are happy to say she does not need further treatment at this time.  She now must have MRI's every 2 months.

We are in this race for her and all other brain tumor patients and survivors! Please donate to the extraordinary cause and find a cure!

With love,

Maranda, Heath, Payson & Oceanna
