Free Beer Fairy
We run in memory of the beer fairy, Dr. Stephen Pothier. Steve died on November 30, 2009, only four months after being diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor. We miss him dearly.
Steve was a senior research scientist in George Washington's Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. In this capacity, Steve served as adviser to GW's Inaugural Float Committee, helping to build the 70-foot-long float that represented GW in the Inauguration Day parade in January 2009.
Before joining GW, Steve was an engineer for Walt Disney World's Ride and Show Engineering and on the faculty at Princeton University. Steve earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a master's degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Tufts University. He was also a Delta Air Lines pilot.
Last, but not least, Steve was a runner. And so it feels particularly fitting to run in honor of Steve, remembering great times we shared with him and hoping that we can make a difference in the search for a brain cancer cure.
Thanks for your support.
