Race For Hope - DC
Rewind to January 2010. 3 of my friends and I had decided that we would start training in order to run in this 5k Race for Hope. None of us had ever done a 5k, so, as short of a distance as it may seem, we were wondering what we had gotten ourselves into. However, we were excited about the challenges that faced us as we prepared for the race. And we wanted to be there to honor the survivors of this terrible disease and remember those who lost their lives.
Fast forward to Race Day. We were all nervous as we headed to the race site. However, standing with the other participants, watching survivors, family members and friends, listening to stories of loved ones lost, we were all overcome with emotion. Emotions that I can't fully describe. I'll never forget that day and I know my friends won't either. There are moments in our lives that we can say have changed us, and that day, standing on Pennsylvania Avenue with 12,000 other wonderful people, I can say that my life was changed. My friends and I made a vow that we would always return to DC to participate in this race and help raise awareness for brain tumor research.
The Race for Hope - DC raises funds to support innovative research initiatives and support services for brain tumor patients and their families. This amazing event relies on the dedication and enthusiasm of individuals, families, teams, volunteers, sponsors and donors. Proceeds benefit the National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. Thank you for your support in helping us find a cure for brain tumors!
