Welcome to Sheila's Page - In Honor of Michael L. Graybeal
This year, I am volunteering at the Race for Hope-DC, as part of David Cook's Team for a Cure, to honor the memory of my best friend and husband, Michael. Mike was an amazing 21 year survivor of brain cancer. First diagnosed and treated in 1997, he lived "in heaven on earth" for the next 18 years. Though no longer able to serve as a physician, Mike was able to stay active doing things that he loved--volunteering with scouts, serving at our church, going on foreign mission trips, hiking to many a waterfall. Most importantly, he was able to be there for our family--to see our 3 children grow up, help with school activities, attend mutiple graduation ceremonies, enjoy 2 weddings (with a 3rd on the horizon), and greet his first 2 grandchildren. When Mike's brain cancer recurred in early 2016, he was able to survive another 3 years, during which he welcomed 2 more grandchildren and made more memories. All this was possible through the excellent treatment and good fortune that Mike experienced. My sincere hope is that more brain tumor patients will have similar joys in their lives through the efforts of organizations like the National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure.
That's why I'm uniting with others to make a difference in the fight against brain tumors. I am passionate about this cause, so I’m taking action and need your help. National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure are making strides for a cure - but more needs to be done. Please join in my effort!
