Our family will be participating in the Race for Hope - DC 5K Run/Walk presented by Cassidy Turley being held on May 4. The Race for Hope - DC is a fun and inspirational event, and supports the National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure in their quest to find a cure for brain tumors. The fight against brain tumors is very personal for me, which is why I am taking part in the Race. Let me share my story with you to tell you why this cause is so important to me.

Five years ago, I lost my beautiful 12 year old son, RIcky to an agressive Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumor. He survived only 13 months after his initial diagnosis. Ricky was the picture of health when he was diagnosed in April of 2007. He was fifth grade superstar, which he was all too eager to admit, excelling in school and sports. Ricky faced the same treatment options and the same prognosis that children with this diagnosis have faced for twenty years.During his 13 month fight, Ricky endured 3 different brain surgeries, multiple chemotherapy treatments and 6 weeks of daily radiation. If I wasn't so sure the treatment would save him, I would have been horrified. It was still difficult to watch him suffer through the side-effects of steroids that changed his looks and personality, radiation that caused his hair to fall out on one half of his head, and chemotherapy that made him sick. Through it all, his beauty shined through and his spirit and courage were inspirational. Ricky will always be a hero in our eyes.

I'm sure you can see why I am participating and raising funds to find a cure. I am asking you to please join my team or consider making a donation to me. Every dollar helps - even if you can only donate $5.00, please do. . Every donation, no matter how large or small, helps this important cause. If you can't join, please pass this on to others who may be able to donate or join us. I also ask that you pray for the many adults and children still fighting this horrible disease and for the families that are fighting to remain hopeful. Pray too, that the doctors and researchers will find a cure and develop better, less devastating, treatment regimens. The links are provided below.

Thank you so much for all of your support and I hope to see you at the Race for Hope- DC!
