Christopher Sliker's Story - Team Christopher's Crusaders 2009-2011
This will be our sixth Race for Hope. When we reflect back to the first year, we recall the many waves of emotions of that first walk - joy, pride, happiness, fear, sadness, anxiety.
Christopher was with us and we were filled with Hope. On the morning of May 3rd, our Christopher's Crusaders (dozens of his best friends, their siblings and parents as well as our friends and family) piled into cars and vans despite the pouring rain, to make a difference. The Slikers never got the chance to run/walk that day as Christopher became VERY ill and we needed to rush him to Johns Hopkins were he spent the next few days in the hospital. His friends stayed at the Race, and walked through the worst of conditions in his honor. For the years that followed, these same people and others have walked with us in the worst of pain and sorrow, day to day, as well as every May in the Race for Hope, but now in his memory.
Again this year, we will walk without Christopher physically with us, yet with HOPE - a hope for advancement in treatment and ultimately a CURE. Please read our team story on our team page TEAM CAROLINE RICKY CHRISTOPHER. It is not logical that three families from a small community united by church, school and swim should face the same tradegy in such a small window of time. Join us in turning sorrow into HOPE - join our team, wear our Team TShirt and/or make a donation- all with the intention of Remembrance, Awareness and Cure.
When your child is physically with you, you spend every moment doing everything you can to care for and protect them. When your child is no longer physically near, then you turn towards acts of remembrance. Join us as we Cherish Remember and Celebrate our Children.
We love you Bud Bud - to the Highest Heaven and back.
