Welcome to My Personal Page
It was last year at this time that my brother had overcome being in hospice care at his home. The nurses that cared for him said that it did not look good for him and to prepare for his passing. That was not easy to hear. We prayed and remained hopeful that he would pull through. It was EASTER MORNING that he became strong enough to shower, dress, get out of his bed and spend time with us as a family. He was more himself than what we had been seeing the previous few weeks when he was on high doses of morphine. We all were so relieved to have John back with us being himself: cracking jokes and smiling.
I believe that is was his PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) and love of Aileen and his children that kept him going. That said, the donations that kept rolling in to support the Brain Tumor cause gave him an amazing sense of purpose and hope as well. When John was having a bad day, Aileen would update him on all of the encouraging comments and donations that were getting them closer to their goal of being in the Top 10 for money raised for The Brain Tumor Society.
John reached his goal last year and was able to walk The Race for Hope 5K AND he was honored with an award for raising $38,000! He felt like a celebrity at the event and had 100 team members who all cheered for him when he and Aileen accepted their award at the podium. What a great day! John raised his arms in victory and I was a very proud sister.
Even though John lost his battle with cancer on June 3rd last year, he fought it with every breath. I know that he would be so happy to know that PMA lives on and we can still make a difference in the lives of other survivors who continue to fight today.
My family and I will be running/walking at The Race for Hope on May 4th, 2014. That is less than 2 weeks away!
Please join our team and if you can not be at the race, please make a donation. Any amount will be appreciated. If you can not donate, please help spread the word and forward this link to friends or family. Post this link to your facebook page and encourage your Facebook friends to check out the link.
It would be a wonderful commemoration for Aileen to walk to that stage and accept another award in John's memory and it would be a lot to me as well.
