Welcome to Mary Alice's Personal Page
On Sunday, May 4, my wife Lyn and I are uniting with others to make a difference in the fight against brain tumors. I will be participating as a virtual team member in the 5K Run/Walk "Race for Hope" in Washington DC and Lyn, as team captain, will be there in person!
As you probably know, Lyn's brother Howie (aka Cleveland) was diagnosed with a brain tumor in the summer of 2009. He underwent raditaion and chemotherapy at that time and was blessed with almost 4 years of being symptom free. During that time, his life was full, including playing ice hockey on a men's team and coaching his daugher Zene's and Zoe's ice hockey teams. Howie is one who knows how to live life to the fullest and he did exactly that! There are too many fun stories to recount here, so let us just say that we wish that we were as successful at enjoying life as Howie is!
After years of continued monitoring, Howie was told this past summer that his brain tumor was active again. Since then, he has undergone several different types of treatments and although he isn't back to where he was a year ago, his health is stable and he continues to live life to its fullest!
As a two time cancer survivor myself, Lyn and I are passionate about finding cures for all types of cancer. When my wife Lyn first proposed joining this walk, my reaction was "of course!!" As life would have it, my niece Colleen is graduating from college at the exact same day and time which means that I'll be in Washington DC in spirit, with Lyn there in person, as I celebrate Colleen's graduation with our family in Dayton, Ohio that weekend.
We are hoping that you will help us to support this cause by donating to these two organizations. You can donate to one of us specifically, to our team "Howie's Homies", or to Howie.
The National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure are making strides for a cure - but more needs to be done. Please join in my effort to raise funds for these great organizations!
