UPDATE 3/7: Sadly, our baby boy, Geddy Matheson Coffey, was stillborn on February 13, 2014 due to severe preeclampsia. The sense of loss is intolerable. Though his time with us was short, he gave us so much hope And we loved seeing his photoshoots! We will always love our baby Geddy and miss that he's not here with us. We are sure to meet again.
Thank you for visiting and supporting Team Coffey!!
It's been two years since I was diagnosed with hydrocephalus due to a brain tumor. So much has happened in the past two years and Zach and I could not be more excited for our future!
After my brain surgery, we didn't know why I was still having so much nausea and lethargy. In fact, I was only hours away from having another brain surgery at Hopkins, when the surgeon decided to wait- perhaps these issues would resolve themselves? Months went by and I still wasn't feeling well. Luckily, I trusted my body more than my doctors and persisted until we found out what was wrong.
This past summer, I received news that I had an advanced form of thyroid cancer and would need surgery the following week to remove the diseased area. Fortunately, there was a very skilled team of doctors working with Zach and me. Much of the afflicted area was removed successfully. My vocal chords were damaged, one completely missing and the other partially working. However, we were grateful to have a diagnosis that we could tackle. Days before my first radiation treatment, Zach and I found out incredible news! We’re expecting! What a miracle! We finally received great news after years of health drama.
Our little baby boy is due this June and we are praying he is a healthy, strong baby. I hope to complete this Race for Hope as we did last year, amongst a team of revelers. Thank you for your continued support.
The Race for Hope is so important, because HOPE is what gets people through hard times like we've had. I am so lucky to be on the other side of this brain tumor. This race is for awareness and for those who need teammates pulling for them. This is for them, because we can- we must.
Please join us on race day if you are able or make a donation to help fund brain tumor research! THANK YOU!
