Team If I Only Had a Brain Cancer Cure
Have you ever heard of that classic "Wizard of Oz" song? The one that the scarecrow sings that goes "I could while away the hours, conferrin' with the flowers, consultin' with the rain! And my head I'd be scratchin' while my thoughts were busy hatchin' if I only had a brain!" My mom and I used to sing that song when she was going through brain cancer treatment because she often felt that she had no control over her brain. Abilities that were once second nature to her, like speaking, became difficult as a result of the cancer.
Brain cancer patients experience some of the highest rates of disability, morbidity, and mortality among all cancer patients. Even if they can beat the cancer, they often experience side effects from their cancer treatment that make living and working very difficult. As a medical psychology researcher who lost my mom to brain cancer when she was only 52 years old (and I was 20!), I am now devoting my days to improving the quality of life of brain cancer patients. There are many other talented doctors and researchers who have the ability to advance brain cancer treatment, if we only support them.
The Race for Hope - DC presented by Cassidy Turley raises funds to support innovative research initiatives and provide information for brain tumor patients and their families. This amazing event relies on the dedication and enthusiasm of individuals, families, teams, volunteers, sponsors and donors. Thank you for your support in helping us find a cure for brain tumors!
