On May 4th, friends and family of Billy Uthai Nanthavong will be honoring his memory by participating in The Race for Hope. The team name, Billy's Puzzle Pieces, comes from his love of all sorts of puzzles. Billy was very gifted when it came to piecing together some of the most difficult puzzles in a very short amount of time. Whether it was 100 pieces or a few thousand pieces, it was no challenge to him. After each puzzle was completed, Billy would flip the puzzle, tape it together and frame the puzzle as artwork. Billy's final project was a puzzle of a red Chevy Bel Air. With the help of his friends, the puzzle was completed, framed and hung up on his wall with the rest of his finished puzzles. Before he passed away he gifted a puzzle of Snoopy to one of his favorite doctors at Children's National.
On August 11, 2011, just 10 days shy of his 20th birthday, Billy lost his battle against brain cancer. Even though he lost his fight, his courage, strength, and optimism continues to inspire to us all. Billy would be proud to see his family and friends participate in a race and raising money for others battling brain tumors.
This is the third year Billy's Puzzle Pieces will participate in The Race for Hope DC and we hope it's not the last. Thank you for all the support!
The Race for Hope - DC presented by Cassidy Turley raises funds to support innovative research initiatives and provide information for brain tumor patients and their families. This amazing event relies on the dedication and enthusiasm of individuals, families, teams, volunteers, sponsors and donors. Thank you for your support in helping us find a cure for brain tumors!
