Race for Hope - DC

Poppi's Pack

This year will mark our fourth year participating in the Race for Hope-DC. We started Poppi's Pack in 2009 to support my dad, Richard Oropeza, as he fought a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor. It has become a yearly tradition for our family and friends ever since.

Richard was diagnosed with a GBM brain tumor in February 2006 and given a prognosis of 9-12 months. Not willing to let the doctors be right, Richard led a courageous five and a half year battle with cancer as he endured two craniotomies, radiation treatment, chemotherapy, gamma knife surgery, and bi-weekly Avastin infusions. Two weeks after participating in his third Race for Hope last May, Richard passed away at his home in Williamsburg, Virginia surrounded by his family. Richard inspired all of us who knew him with his determination, love, and humor through it all.

We are missing the heart and soul of our team this year, but this event was so important to Richard, so we are all the more determined to continue his desire to raise money for research to end this terrible disease and help others who face brain cancer. We look forward to doing so with Poppi's Pack and the Race for Hope-DC this year and many years to to come.

We welcome all those who would like to walk with us. If you cannot make it to the Race but would like to suport us, please consider making a donation to one of our team members. Every dollar raised goes to help end this terrible disease, and every dollar riased makes a difference in the lives of those who are currently fighting this disease.

All the best and thank you for your support!
