2017 Race for Hope - DC

Randy's statistical outliers

This team was established in early 2013, in memory of Lester R "Randy" Curtin, who had recently died of brain cancer (glioblastoma).  Here is a picture of Randy as he appeared on the Wall of Hope.  He was an amazing runner and person, simply the best person I have ever known. He was also a very gifted and dedicated statistician at the National Center for Health Statistics/CDC, a teacher and mentor to many (including me!)

Brain cancer keeps marching on and several of my team members have lost beloved family members:

Barb Dossey lost her son, Paul Dossey, in July 2012, to glioblastoma.

Sandy Decker lost her father, John Decker, to gliosarcoma in the fall of 2012.

Brenda Baker lost her aunt, Fran Rotunno, in early 2013 to a brief glioblastoma battle.

So we come together to walk/run in the memory of those we have lost, but also in the HOPE of brighter futures for brain cancer patients and those who love them.

Our foe is fierce, but we must keep up the fight!

Sally C. Curtin
