Cindy's Crew Team for 2017
Thanks for visiting the website for Cindy's Crew and the Race for Hope. This will be the 13th year that we will run/walk the race. We are excited to once again participate in the race where the funds go toward helping to find a cure for brain tumors.
This is my journey as a brain tumor suvivor. I first discovered that I had a nonoperable brain tumor (Astrocytoma, Grade II) in December of 2004. I went through six weeks of both radiation and Temador in the Spring of 2005. Fortunately, these treatments helped to make my tumor a little smaller. In May 2012, we found that the tumor had started to grow again. The biopsy revealed that the tumor was still a grade II. Once again, I was put on Temador which after seven cycles was stopped due to my low white blood cell count, Fortunately, the Temador helped stop the growth again.
In Febuary 2016, my MRI showed once again that my tumor had stated to grow. At that time I was taking Temador daily until my next MRI in May. Unfortunately, this did not work. In May, I was treated with another medicine, called Avastin. It is a liquid that is given to me every two weeks. It is based on my weight. Then, I go to visit the doctor at UVA, every two months. If everything is good, I get to continue with the Avastin, every two weeks and take a pill called CCNU once every eight weeks. So far, I have shrunk the tumer a bit and am hoping that it will contune to get smaller. Lets hope that this medicine will continue to do what it needs to do! My hope is that not only mt tumor, but all people with brain tumor, can find a away to stop the tumore growth and live a healthy live.
Hopefully, the money raised from this race will help to accomplish that goal.
If you are interested in joining our team it would be wonderful! You do not have to run, you can walk. It is a 3.1 mile race, and it is a beautiful course. If runniing or walking does not appeal to you and you still want to help, of course we will take a financial donation. Any little bit will help!
