Team Proud Mary
Hi Team Proud Mary'ers!
Ten fingers. Ten toes. Somehow, ten years. A decade has passed since the first time my sisters and I formed Team Proud Mary in spirit and in honor of our mom, Mary, who was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme and lost her battle after 11 hard fought months. Diamonds often commemorate the 10th anniversary of a relationship commitment and how appropriate for they also symbolize strength, faithfulness, and love – characteristics this team has shown each and every year of this committed relationship to fight brain cancer.
Many of us have become connected to the familiar strangers who share that Sunday morning with us – celebrating life and remembering loved ones. They almost feel like family. We have compassion for the survivors who find the strength and will to stand and walk across that finish line. We raise monies in charity towards research that benefits brain cancer and other cancers alike. And, we hold in our consciousness those we’ve lost to this unforgiving disease. Words really cannot convey how much this meant to our mom, who was able to give thanks to those first runners in DC as we took care of her in Denver.
This year and each year to come, we run not in the shadows of her passing but in celebration of her life -- all that she was, is, and forever will be. We carry her forward and run in her place. We continue her fight against a horrific cancer in the hope that one day there will be a cure.
So, strap on your tennies and join the team in tribute to an extremely worthy cause. Like last year, we will have team t-shirts.
Let's toast to life by enjoying a morning together, running/walking for a great cause. Your participation and support means more than words can express! Thank you for being a part of the team!!!
