As we have done every year, Nell and Agnieszka will be running 5k race on May 7th to raise money for brain cancer research. We run in honor of our grandfather and father, Bohdan Paczynki who died ten years ago, on April 19, 2007, after fighting glioblastoma multiforme for three years. He was 67 years old. In many ways, he was very lucky - he had access to the best medical care and he had a family that had the time and the resources to search for cutting edgeclinical trials. He also outlived his original diagnosis of three months. But he left us all too soon.
The fact remains that the prognosis for those afflicted with this disease remains grim and the disease itself devastates both the body and the mind. Progress in finding more effective ways of treating brain cancer have been made over the years but so much more remains to be done.
For the sixth time Nell, Bohdan’s thirteen-year old granddaughter is honoring her grandfather by running in the Race for Hope. She and I will be running in Washington, DC on May 7th. Even though Nell was just three when he died, her grandfather remains a huge presence in her life. Together we are running in his memory and hope that you will support us. Any contribution, however small, makes a difference.
We thank you for your support! Nell and Agnieszka
