The Race for Hope - DC presented by Cushman & Wakefield raises funds to support innovative research initiatives and provide information for brain tumor patients and their families. This amazing event relies on the dedication and enthusiasm of individuals, families, teams, volunteers, sponsors and donors.
My dad died when I was sixteen years old from brain cancer - specifically a GBM. When he was diagnosed, the doctors said he didn't have long. He defied so many odds and lived for 5 years before leukemia ultimately took him from us. Throughout his entire illness, he always had hope and determination. He wrote letters about having a positive attitude, and spoke about inspirational things. He had his bad days, and he changed over the years, but he was determined to live for as long as he could. Before he got sick, my dad was an avid fundraiser for cancer research and other diseases. He biked for MS, donated money at silent auctions and was always helping those in need - not knowing that he would need help in the future. Once he got sick, I knew I needed to continue his fundraising efforts and do everything I could to help find a cure. In college, I became president of College's Against Cancer and raised thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society through Relay For Life each year. When I would email friends and family for donations, they would comment that I reminded them so much of my dad and how he was always working to help others. This is one of the most amazing compliments that I have ever received, and I carry it with me - always working to make him proud and striving to be like him. I am getting married in June and wish more than anything that my dad could be there to walk me down the aisle and celebrate (those of you who knew him know he loved a good party!) with us. But I know he is proud, excited and celebrating in spirit.
Every dollar counts. Each day we get closer to finding a cure for this horrible disease. As someone who has had to watch a family member battle cancer, who has had cancer, and has helped a close friend through cancer treatment - I know how terrible it is. Together, we can find HOPE, generate AWARENESS, and raise money to find a CURE.
Thank you for your donation! I hope you can join David's Runners as we walk/run in the 5K!
