Sheldon's Shteibel

This year will be our ninth (WOW!) year participating in the Race for Hope DC, and our third year without my father. My father, Sheldon Berman, fought brain cancer for close to three years until he succumbed to it, surrounded by family and friends, on October 21st, 2012. During his almost three year battle, my father was a source of inspiration to everyone who knew him. He never let his prognosis get in the way of living. During his illness, he continued to volunteer for various organizations, teach classes and spend time with family and friends. My father's death has left a void in all of our lives. He is survived by his mother, his AMAZING wife Ann, his three children and five young grandchildren. He was lucky enough to have known four of them. The newest granddaughter, Shirel, is the first child to be named after him. My father never once complained about the altered course his life took. Each year, my father looked forward to participating in the race. He would check our status each day and often donated bits of money throughout our months of fundraising in order to help us reach our goals.

Charity was very important to my father. He supported many important causes but finding a cure for brain cancer was at the top of the list. Even though a cure didn't come soon enough for my father, our family is committed to finding a cure to help others in the same situation. During his almost three year battle with brain cancer, my father participated in several clinical trials, which gave us hope and extended his life and his quality of life. We want to help others in the same situation as him. We hope that you will consider making a donation of any amount in memory of my father to help us reach our goal. Over the past seven years, we have, as a team, raised over $120,000 towards brain cancer research.

Over the last several years, our team grew and we had so many people running and walking, proudly wearing their Sheldon's Shteibel hats. We would love to have as many people as possible join our team this year. It is a very family friendly race and a lot of fun!

Please help us by joining our team or supporting us as we remember my father and celebrate his legacy.

Thank you for your support!
