Malfanti's on a Mission
Hi Friends and Family!
As many of you know Christine and I are going to Washington DC in May to participate in two National Brain Tumor Events called Race for Hope and Head to the Hill! The National Brain Tumor Society has special meaning for Christine, my mom and I because every year for 30+ years after my dad died, our close family friends from San Mateo organized a golf tournament in honor of our Dad, Robert Malfanti, where all the proceeds went to the National Brain Tumor Society. When my dad died of a brain tumor in 1981, they did not have the treatments that are available today, so unfortunately he lost his battle after 3 short months. Christine will be coming up on her one-year anniversary of her diagnosis, so while some progress has been made, so much more needs to be done!
We both feel called to do more, as it states in Luke 12:48….“When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.”
Right after Christine was diagnosed I set up a meeting with a Board Member of the NBTS to find out how we were going to help find a cure for Brain Tumors… that literally was my agenda…. go big or go home, right? She said we could volunteer at a local event to pass out water to the runners, and we both were like no…bigger… after a few more options, she said you can join our Head to the Hill Advocate team, fly to Washington DC, and demand our State Senators and Congressional Leaders allocate more research funds to finally find a cure for Brain Tumors and of course we said… now your talking! This may be our biggest sales call yet!
Esther 4:14 “Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created…”
So it is a two-part event. On Sunday May 6th we are going to participate in the Race for Hope DC, a 5K run in the nation's capital, which raises funds for Brain Tumor Research. The Race for Hope DC has raised over $29 million in its history and needs so much more to find a cure! We are hoping you would support our team “Malfanti’s on a Mission.”
Then on May 7th & 8th we Head to the Hill to ensure the voice of the brain tumor community is being heard on Capitol Hill! We will be trained on the key public policy issues facing the brain tumor community and then we will speak with policy makers so they can better understand the critical and urgent needs of the Brain Tumor community and the policies that are vital to ensuring availability for treatments, increased research and the discovery for a cure!
We appreciate your support and prayers! #teamchristine #malfantisonamission
