2019 Race For Hope - DC

Zito Strong-In Memory of Daniel Zito

The boys and I will be participating in the Race for Hope again this year. Our lives changed forever on June 7th, 2016, when Dan collapsed in a gran mal seizure on our family room floor. A day later we were told that he had a lesion on the brain, and less then a week later he was moved to Johns Hopkins for a craniotomy. Our future, as we had imagined, it was gone in a blink of an eye. Fast forward 14 months later, and despite our best efforts, 3 brain surgeries, chemo, radiation, and numerous other remedies, and he was gone. Our lives changed forever.

While Dan received amazing care, we were frustrated to learn that the standard of care for Glioblastoma has remained largely unchanged for over 10 years. While there seems to be many breakthroughs on the horizon, none of these came in time to save Dan, and the countless other patients who are fighting through this disease. Brain tumors need more attention and more funding. I don't want another family losing a loved one. I want my sons to grow up in a world where Glioblastoma isn't considered a "death sentence". National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure are making strides for a cure - but more needs to be done. Please join us on May 5th. If you can't walk/run then please consider a donation. Any amount, big or small helps. With Love Katherine, Matthew & Michael Zito. #ZitoStrong #CancerSucks
