It's true, none of us are guaranteed tomorrow, however, when you are diagnosed with an incurable disease you feel a loss of control. The Race for Hope has given me just that, HOPE, that I might be here for my girl's milestones, weddings, and grandchildren. You see the National Brain Tumor Society allows you to designate your funds to go to my tumor type research. Prior to this, there was no research being done on my tumor type. Participating in this event for the last seven years has given me a sense of control over this disease.
After my craniotomy, I truly didn't believe my doctor when she told me that they always come back. I would tell her that I was going to be her "one" so that she had a positive story to share with her patients. Unfortunately, she was right. On April 10, 2018, I had an awake craniotomy at John Hopkins in Baltimore where they removed two tumors. They were not able to get the last tumor as my brain fell upon itself and it would have compromised my quality of life. So we are still looking for an answer. The Race for Hope has more meaning to me now than ever.
Thank you for your kindness and participation year after year. With those funds research on my tumor type is showing promise. After speaking with the President of the NBTS I am more encouraged than ever that something is going to break in 2019. We need your support now more than ever.
The support that I feel from our family, friends, and community can't be expressed in words. I will proudly run in their memory.
