Drew Nealley Team
Our team races again this year in honor of Drew Nealley, a smart, courageous, energetic and creative boy with a great sense of humor who lost his battle with a brain tumor in 2006, when he was just 7 years old. Drew attended Grace Episcopal Day School where he is fondly remembered by fellow classmates, teachers and administrators. Each year, the school presents the Drew Nealley Award to the student who logs the most miles in the Walker's Club. Drew himself was the winner of the Walker's Club Award as a 1st grader, when he logged a remarkable 86 miles. Drew walked that year throughout his illness, and his teachers walked in his stead when he was away from school for treatment. We are proud to participate in the Race for Hope as a tribute to Drew's tenacity and bravery.
Since 2007, the Drew Nealley Team has raised over $152,000 in support of brain tumor research. The team's fundraising success is a testament to Drew, his parents, Sarah and Eric, and his brother, Harrison, all of whom have touched our lives in a special way.
We are extremely proud to count two brain tumor survivors among our teammates. Quinn Simpson, currently a college junior, had a brain tumor removed when he was in first grade. Quinn is a Grace Episcopal Day School graduate and his sister was a classmate of Drew.
April McDowell, former Grace Episcopal Day School teacher underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor in July 2006. April currently teaches at the Washington Episcopal School.
Please consider supporting our team through your participation and/or generous donation.
Team captains are April McDowell, Sarah Nealley, Lauren Simpson, and Karen Smith.
