The Race for Hope - DC presented by Cassidy Turley raises funds to support innovative research initiatives and provide information for brain tumor patients and their families. This amazing event relies on the dedication and enthusiasm of individuals, families, teams, volunteers, sponsors and donors.
Thie year we decided to form Team Howie's Homies to help raise money and awareness about this important cause. As many of you know Howie (Cleveland to some of you) Howard was diagnosed with an inoperable brain mass (tumor) in the summer of 2009. This type of diagnosis is always devastating for a patient and family to hear, but Howie received top notch treatment that halted the progression of the tumor and resolved most of the symptoms that had led to its discovery. For almost four years following his diagnosis he received healthy, no changes seen check ups that allowed him to resume hiw normal activities like playing hockey, running, snow-boarding, and spending time with family and friends. This past Summer, during a regular check up, he was informed that the tumor had started to grow again and so he resumed treatment.
Today his tumor is stable, meaning it is not changing, and so he is not receiving any treatments. Of course, he is being evaluated on an ongoing basis and he is working to regain and retain his strength and physical condition. He is fortunate to be able to work and spend time with his family and friends and he is planning on participating in this year's Race for Hope as a walker so that he can give back to the community that has helped him over the past four years. We are all too aware of the number of people that are diagnosed with brain tumors every year and the challenges that they face so we decided to form Team Howie's Homies. We hope that you will consider supporting our team or even participating on our team as a walker or runner. It is going to be a great event.
Thank you for your support in helping us find a cure for brain tumors!
