Sam's Tumor TKO
If there ever was a call you never expected, it was the one I received at 7:48am on Dec. 10, 2010. Half asleep, I picked up my phone and heard my doctor's voice on the other line - she called to tell me the MRI I had the evening before showed a large mass in my brain. In less than 5 seconds my entire life was changed forever.
Despite a difficult surgery and a painful recovery, I'm one of the lucky ones and that fact is never lost on me. What I also don't take for granted is that my tumor was rare and had research funding not been dedicated to study it, my outcome may not have been as positive as it was.
The Race for Hope - DC raises funds to support innovative research initiatives and provide information for brain tumor patients and their families.
I will forever be grateful to my doctors and nurses, but also to my friends and family who played such a critical role in my recovery. I'm very excited to do my part this year to give back.
Because I'm proof that you can never say it can't happen to you - thank you for your support in helping us find a cure for brain tumors!
