Race for Hope - DC

NuMuMu

Team NuMuMu was formed to honor the memory of our friend, Jennifer Lynn Bernhards.  Initially started  by some of her friends from the University of Virginia, our team has grown to encompass  Jen's friends from high school, family members, and friends of friends, upwards of 45 members. The DC Race for Hope has become an annual tradition for many of us, and is a way to come together in celebration of Jen's life, while supporting research to combat brain tumors. While we honor Jen's memory, we are reminded daily of others living with this disease. Know that your support will help them as well. We hold in our hearts the father of one of our team members, and one of Vic's cycling friends.

Our team members travel from California, Colorado, New York and many other states to participate in the race. A post-race get together ensures that we have the time to reconnect with each other, with Jen as the anchor that brings us together each year.  Over the past six years, we have raised over $43,000 for the Race for Hope, and we are grateful for everyone's support.

Our team name comes from a pseudo-sorority we created while at the University of Virginia, as a spoof on sorority life and activities--even though several of us were also members of real sororities. We had a friendly competition that we called our strength ladder, always trying to outdo each other whether it be athletics, academics, wit, philanthropy, or pranks.  Jen outdid us all, when she reached the top rung by showing us how to face a devastating illness with grace, dignity, optimism, a sense of humor, and a selflessness shown by her continued interest in everyone around her.

We invite you to visit our individual team member pages in a week or two, where several of our members will have added personal comments about why the race is important to them.

You can help in one of two ways:

1.  Join the team and meet us on Sunday. You can run, walk, or simply cheer us on while enjoying the spring weather.  The deadline for online registration is Sunday, April 27, 2014. Just click the Join Team  button to the right (above the thermometer) on this page.  If you are unable to attend in person, please consider registering for the Race as a "Virtual Participant." The registration process is the same as for a regular team member--you'll just click Virtual when asked.

2.  Make a tax deductible gift in any amount, either online or by mail. To donate online, just click on any team member's name (scroll to the bottom to see the team list). Once that person's page displays, click the Donate button and follow the instructions. To donate by mail, please contact our team captain for instructions, at jpbernhards@verizon.net

Please know that any amount, great or small, is accepted with heartfelt appreciation. NO amount is too small!!
