No Day But Today
Matt Downey's motto was "No Day but Today". He set a great example for all of us - teaching us to live out each day well and to remember that each day is a gift.
There are many pictures of Matt wearing a backpack, and that backpack was a good symbol for the way he lived his life - taking in so many great friends and loved ones and all the experiences 30 years could hold. Matt seemed to wear a kind of bottomless backpack - made for a guy with an enduring spirit that still lives on. Matt's great outlook helped him live life to the fullest.
We all miss Matt - his genuine warmth and smiling good nature, his infectious laugh and great sense of humor, his excellent friendship, his generous love and his always inspiring courage. The brain tumor that took his life in October 2006 will never really take away the Matt Downey we knew and loved.
Matt walked miles and ran races and did all he could to raise money for the cause of brain tumor research. In tribute to him, we take part in the Race for Hope each spring in Washington, DC. Please join us to honor Matt and to support so many other fine people still fighting this awful disease.
Even if you can't walk with us, please give what you can to help fight brain tumors -
