National Brain Tumor Society

Dear Advocates:

Next Wednesday, November 14, brain tumor advocates will join thousands of fellow advocates across the country concerned about medical research to call Congress and tell them that we need cures, not cuts!

As you’ve heard from us before, across-the-board cuts to the federal budget are scheduled to take effect unless Congress takes action to stop it by January 2, 2013. This would mean devastating cuts to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the largest funder of brain tumor research in the country. We cannot afford to have budget cuts stifle innovation in medical research.

Next week, as part of an entire week of action, the National Brain Tumor Society joins advocacy coalitions, scientific and medical societies, and individuals committed to protecting research funding in a national call-in day. We are raising our voices together and letting Congress know that they must act to stop these devastating cuts.

We need you! On Wednesday, please call your Members of Congress using the numbers and script we’ll provide here. The call page will go live Wednesday morning and will provide you with all the information and tools you’ll need. It will only take a minute. And all you have to do is add the most important ingredient - your personal story about why brain tumor research is important to you. When you’re done, fill out the online form to let us know how your calls went. This will help us to follow up with the offices and reinforce the message you sent.

Let us know if you have any questions. If you’d like to read more about our work to protect NIH funding, see our fact sheet. Thank you for being a part of this crucial effort.
